I am thinking reality as we know it most definitely was created by others, the powers that be, and that’s what we are born into and must fight against to become our Self. So fake things are already indisputably here, and that is plenty to worry about.

Great post. I've been grappling with this a lot myself in writing

I have to say as well, perfect length for a post. I got some feedback mine were a bit long, so it's inspiring to see ones like this which fit everything in

Thank you. I've been thinking about length myself, and I've decided it's a question of intended audience. If you're a favored author, one of very few newsletters, and your issue comes once a month, a long email makes sense. Otherwise, time is precious.

Yes that's a very good point. I try to keep mine to two a month, and if I post more frequently I don't do anything that is too dense. Like today I put out a topical satire article that takes 4 minutes to read.

Novel chapters will be less frequent, and I've considered giving them their own newsletter so it's easier for people to pick and choose

That’s where I came down on this issue: if this is a simulation, a) it’s all I can detect anyway, so what of it?; b) can’t stop the simulation if it were one; c) I enjoy this sim too much to want to do anything about it.

That’s pretty much my take on it. Unless some virtual reality developer from the base reality shows up in our reality and tells us (convincingly) what’s really going on, it’s all just speculation and doesn’t change what we can discover about this reality.

Some of the characters in Ship of Fools consider these issues, and they’ll have more occasion to think about them as the novel goes on.

Somewhat related: the Creationist Paul Lee rejects the “light created on its way” hypothesis because that would mean God would have created illusions of phenomena that never happened. In Paul’s view, God can’t have created a virtual reality like this because that means he would have tricked us and discovering his truth would be impossible.
